Growing up on a farm, one needs to be self-sufficient in order to make it successful.  One learns many tasks including excavation and drainage.  

When I grew up on the farm I spent a lot of hours clearing the land and putting in drainage tile.  The hands on experience I received as a kid makes me self-sufficient and knowledgeable when it comes to operating equipment, grading the land and adding drainage.  

It is said that for every solution there is a problem, we like to reverse that saying.
